Double opt-in ensures you've got a fully confirmed opt-in contact list, complying with digital marketing rules and standards.
What is double opt-in
It's a way to validate subscriptions. Double opt-in will require anyone signing up for your contact list to first confirm their consent to receive mailings from you.
Double opt-in in E-goi consists of automatically sending out an email with a confirmation link to people who just subscribed. They'll need to click the email link to validate their subscription, ensuring your mailings connect with an audience actually engaged with your business and brand.
Use cases
-
Collecting qualified leads. To prevent fake or misspelled email addresses, an online store's sign-up form enforces double opt-in. Only those clients confirming their subscription will be sent the store's newsletters and "just in" offers.
-
GDPR compliance: A large brand is rolling out an international campaign with strict GDPR compliance. Double opt-in ensures the campaign will impact only people who gave explicit consent to receive it, meeting legal requirements.
-
Genuine interest and exclusivity: A consulting firm scheduled a workshop for top-tier clients. Double opt-in ensures registrations come from real people, preventing automatic bot sign-ups by bots or fake opt-ins.
Requirements
- Any E-goi account.
- Access permissions to E-goi features supporting double opt-in (such as sign-up pages and opt-in forms).
Costs
Using double opt-in to collect contacts incurs no costs. However, the total contacts you can have in your E-goi account will depend on your E-goi plan.

Types of opt-iIn
Opt-in comes in two main varieties:
- Single opt-in: Contacts subscribe immediately, with no confirmation. Quick and straightforward, but may bring you sketchy leads.
- Double opt-in: Requires confirmation via email link. Ensures high-quality sign-ups.
Single versus double opt-in
Single opt-in
- On subscription, contacts are immediately added to your list - no confirmation needed.
- Quick and no-frills.
- Higher risk of fake email addresses, spam traps or unengaged contacts.
- May damage your email sending reputation.
Double opt-in
- On subscription, contacts must confirm their subscription via email before actually joining your list.
- Ensures a qualified contact list with greater engagement.
- Improves email deliverability and curbs spam complaints.
- Complies fully with GDPR and other anti-spam regulations.
Which to go for?
- Single opt-in to grow your contact list the quick, easy way, at the cost of lower quality leads.
- Double opt-in for a clean, safe list with better long-term engagement.

Frequently asked questions
Is double opt-in required by law?
No. Double opt-in isn't required in most countries. However, major regulations such as Europe's GDPR require your contacts' consent to be explicit and verifiable. Double opt-in is the safest way to ensure this.
Hence, although not required by law, it helps prevent spam complaints and dramatically improves your email deliverability.
What happens to contacts who subscribe but don't confirm it?
They'll remain Unconfirmed in E-goi until they confirm it. To do so, they must click the link in the double opt-in email they were sent upon signing up.
