Creating a WhatsApp Messages campaign

In this article

E-goi's WhatsApp channel lets you send WhatsApp messages to your customers straight off E-goi.

What is E-goi's WhatsApp Messaging

An easy way to automatically engage your contacts and customers via WhatsApp using E-goi without the hassle of external tools.

Example: Alice buys an item from your online shop. E-goi then sends her a personalised WhatsApp message confirming her purchase, plus a discount code for her next purchase with a “Copy code” button.

Use cases

WhatsApp Messages will turbocharge your customer engagement in multiple scenarios:

  • Promo campaigns in nurturing flows: WhatsApp-powered coupons and special offers to customers funneled into your automated flow.
  • Time-critical notifications: WhatsApp reminders about flight bookings, scheduled appointments and other notices requiring prompt action.
  • Customer chat: Provide automatic replies based what people ask you on WhatsApp.coupons, exclusive products and special catalogues sent via WhatsApp to customers enrolled in an automated flow.

Requirements

  • Any E-goi account with a Pro plan.
  • WhatsApp Business account connected to Facebook (Meta for Business).
WhatsApp is owned by Meta, which also owns Facebook. This means your WhatsApp Business account must be connected to a Facebook Business account (aka Meta for Business).
  • A mobile number used solely by your company and not previously assigned to a standard WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business account.
  • WhatsApp message templates previously approved by Meta.

Usage costs

Any WhatsApp messages you send via E-goi are paid directly to Meta. The cost depends on the type of message (marketing, services, etc.) and the  country they'll be sent to, as per WhatsApp Business pricing.

E-goi won't charge you any additional fees on top of Meta's pricing for WhatsApp messages.

Before you begin

Activating WhatsApp Messages in E-goi

To use our WhatsApp Messages feature, you need a WhatsApp Business account.

WhatsApp Business is specifically designed for sending marketing and ecommerce messages.

1) Log in to your E-goi account. Go to the top-right menu and click Integrations.

2) Under Integration and plugin management, hit WhatsApp and then Connect to a WhatsApp account. Choose the contact list that will be assigned to the integration and click Next.

3) Log into your Facebook Business account (also called Meta Business Suite) linked to your WhatsApp Business account.

4) Authorise Goidini (E-goi’s integration manager) to access your WhatsApp Business account by hitting Start.

5) Fill in your company info (what Meta calls your “business portfolio”). This will be used for the WhatsApp messages you'll be sending out. Click Next when you're done.

WhatsApp Business requires a unique mobile number from your company to be used as the sender for your WhatsApp message sender and the number people will reply to.

6) Choose the WhatsApp Business account and profile that will be linked to your company info and click Next.

7) Add a payment method (this is how Meta will charge your WhatsApp messages) and hit Finish.

Important! The payment method you've set up in your Facebook Business account will be the one each WhatsApp message sent via E-goi will be charged to.

8) Wait for Meta to approve your mobile number and company info. Once approved, your WhatsApp Business integration status in E-goi will display Approved and Verified for your company name and mobile number.

Where WhatsApp Messages can be used in E-goi

WhatsApp messages can be sent directly via a Campaign or as part of an Automation.

The WhatsApp Send campaign action is compatible with all E-goi automation triggers except for the Viewed product trigger.

Available WhatsApp message templates:

  • For campaigns: “Marketing” template.
  • For automations: “Marketing” and “Utility” templates.

Message approval

Whenever you create or edit a WhatsApp campaign in E-goi, it must be approved by Meta to ensure compliance with WhatsApp marketing rules. This means you'll see a Send for approval button instead of the usual Send button.

Once your campaign has been approved by Meta, it's then ready for sending.

Meta usually takes just a couple minutes to approve or decline your campaign.

Meta templates

For WhatsApp messages, you can only choose from one of the content templates provided by Meta.

"Marketing" template

  • Goal: Promo or marketing messages
  • Scenarios: Promo offers, discounts; sales campaigns; customer win-backs.
  • Example: “Hi Susan! 20% off site-wide. Today only. Shop now!”

“Utility” template

  • Goal: Notices regarding interactions or transactions initiated by the customer.
  • Scenarios: Schedule confirmations; order updates; service or payment reminders.
  • Example: “Hi Mark. We've confirmed your appointment for tomorrow 14:30. To reschedule, reply to this message.”
Important! During message approval, Meta may change the template for your message (eg. Meta may decide that your Utility content is actually Marketing). This may affect the cost of your message.

Rules for Meta templates

  • As per Meta guidelines, once the content for your template in E-goi has been approved by Meta, you won't be able to edit it or use it in another E-goi campaign or automation.
  • To edit or reuse a template, you should duplicate the campaign and re-submit it for Meta approval.

Meta template structure

  • Header (optional)
    • Title
    • Image: JPEG, PNG, JPG (up to 2 MB).
    • Video: MP4 (up to 16 MB).
    • File: PDF (up to 10 MB).

Usage restrictions

  • Spam: Abiding by E-goi's standards, any contacts receiving your WhatsApp messages must have previously consented to them. Any complaints may get your sends or account suspended. See:
  • Prohibited content: See Meta’s content restrictions for WhatsApp messages.
  • USA: Meta has temporarily suspended sending WhatsApp marketing messages to anyone with US mobile numbers (+1 country code and US area codes).
Important! You are fully responsible towards Meta for any WhatsApp content, message or delivery blocking under Meta's policies.

Step-by-step

Sending a WhatsApp Message campaign

1) Be sure you have activated the WhatsApp integration in your E-goi account.

2) Go to the Engage menu, click Create and choose WhatsApp. Select the contact list that will receive your campaign and hit Next.

3) Choose From scratch and hit Next ((if you've got already-approved WhatsApp message templates, you can also choose one here).

4) You'll be taken to the campaign editing page. You can customise:

  • Internal title. Your campaign title in E-goi. Your contacts won't see it.
  • Content: Your actual WhatsApp message content. Feel free to use emojis, personalisation codes or ask our AI for ideas.
  • Customise message header: You can include a title, an image, a video or a PDF at the top of your message.
  • Add buttons to your message: You can add up to ten buttons total. They are always displayed at the bottom of the message.

On the right-hand side, you'll see a preview with your changes in real time.

5) When your message is ready, click Submit for approval (Meta usually replies within minutes).

6) Once your campaign is approved by Meta, it'll be ready to send out in E-goi.

7) If you'd like to test the WhatsApp message live, simply edit the campaign and click Test Delivery (right above the message preview).

Important! Testing is only available if you've set a payment method in your WhatsApp Business account and if your WhatsApp campaign has been approved by Meta.

8) Proceed to the campaign sending step, where you can choose whether to send it now or schedule it for a specific date and time. Also choose whether it'll be sent out to your whole contact list or to a segment. Then move on to the Checklist step, ensure all is send-ready and hit Send.

Sending a WhatsApp Message via an E-goi automation

1) Be sure you activated the WhatsApp integration in your E-goi account.

2) Create an automation in E-goi.

3) Drag a Send campaign action into the automation flow and connect it to another action or trigger already in the automation.

Example: If your automation is a welcome follow-up series, drag the Send campaign action into the Signup trigger already in the flow.

4) In Which campaign type?, choose WhatsApp.

5) Choose From scratch and hit Next ((if you've got already-approved WhatsApp message templates, you can also choose one here).

6) You'll be taken to the campaign creation page. Follow the same steps as creating a WhatsApp campaign. When your campaign is ready, click Submit for approval.

7) Once your campaign has been approved by Meta, it'll be immediately published in your automation and sent to any contacts reaching this stage in your  funnel.

8) If you'd like to test the WhatsApp message live, simply edit the campaign and click Test Delivery (right above the message preview).

Important! Testing is only available if you've set a payment method in your WhatsApp Business account and if your WhatsApp campaign has been approved by Meta.

Frequently asked questions

How can I have E-goi handle replies from my WhatsApp contacts?

If you've set up an automation for your WhatsApp messages, add a WhatsApp received trigger and connect it to the action (eg. “Notify email address”) you want any replies to go through.

From then on, for each WhatsApp reply you receive, E-goi will send your E-goi user a notification email. The email includes the contact's actual reply and their WhatsApp name (if the contact has no WhatsApp name, we'll show their name or ID from your E-goi contact list).

Does E-goi charge me for WhatsApp messages I send?

No. Any WhatsApp messages you send will be charged by Meta via the Facebook Business account which you connected to E-goi.

E-goi won't charge you anything extra to the fees charged by Meta.

How will I be notified when my WhatsApp messages are approved by Meta?

Since Meta handles all approvals, you will get any go/no-go notifications from Meta at the email address associated with your WhatsApp Business account.

What happens if Meta doesn't approve my campaign?

You'll be notified by Meta at the email address linked to your WhatsApp Business account. Meta should tell you why your campaign was rejected. Simply  edit the campaign in E-goi, make any required changes and then resubmit it for approval.

Can I use WhatsApp messages in E-goi multichannel flows?

Yes. E-goi automations are multichannel by design, which makes it a breeze for you to craft high-impact nurturing flows blending WhatsApp messages, sign-up landing pages, email and SMS campaigns, cart recovery automations and more.

Can I edit a WhatsApp message template in E-goi after it has been approved by Meta?

Not directly. To comply with Meta's rules, campaigns under approval or approved by Meta cannot be edited.

But you can still duplicate the automation's action containing your WhatsApp campaign, edit it, make your changes and resubmit to Meta for approval.

I don’t have a Facebook/WhatsApp Business account. Can I still send WhatsApp Messages?

Yes. When activating the WhatsApp integration in E-goi, you'll have the option to create your Facebook/WhatsApp Business account right there and then.
